Flower Post 9

Are you familiar with those random moments when the sky is really blue and you're probably on the way to work or to meet a friend, and all of a sudden, you feel like smiling because you're just so content with your life?

That exact feeling is my artist of the week: Bodhi Jones - singer, songwriter and busking artist from Canada. It's a funny story, this one. When we started this blog, we wanted to introduce artists that had never been discovered but had raw talent that could not be ignored. I remember stumbling across Bodhi Jones about 2 years ago. I do not recall how, but do remember waiting for my turn to introduce him to you and Treble Notes. Thanks to Twitter, I've had the chance to rediscover him.

I've realized that the music you listen to might remain the same but your perception of every song changes with the path your life takes. Which is why this particular artist has been on my playlist, consistently, for the last 2 months. While his voice is raw meets polished, his lyrics are soul hitting and honest. I personally find Bodhi's composition quite unique but if I was forced to compare, I'd say I definitely find a touch of Amos Lee - another one of my most treasured artists.

I've been listening to two songs, consistently.

The first of the two is my personal favorite (partiality? :)):

The second one makes me smile every time it starts playing (like right now).

We're at the end of yet another post and I hope you enjoy the music we bring you. As you can see, Shar has started our trend of introducing Indian music artists, which will be a recurring occurrence on our blog. Kris is up next and I'm sure she's going to open whole new doors for you with her latest find.

Peace and much love,
-Noops (Tups)

P.S - You can follow Bodhi Jones on Twitter here:  https://twitter.com/#!/bodhijones and check out his Youtube page here: http://www.youtube.com/user/bodhijones

Flower Post 8

I started watching a movie called The Romantics around 11:42 P.M on what was supposed to be an exciting Saturday night. The script was morbid, forced artsy, the ending unclear. I was quite prepared to die of either boredom or frustration when I heard the beginning riffs to a song that would send me into a frenzy within the next 2 minutes for what I'm sure is going to be the rest of my life.

Today, I introduce to you sexuality, talent, melody and Lorene Scafaria. When I first heard  Scafaria, to say I was mesmerized would be a gross understatement. An artist who combines satirical humor, love, defiance, melody and sensuality into her music, she brings an edge that surpasses rational thinking.

I am going to introduce two songs and move away from what is my norm by not only posting the link to the respective songs but also the entire lyrics. A seamstress when it comes to words, this is one artist who sews the feelings of empathy and beauty together effortlessly and with copious amounts of talent.

So without much ado, I introduce the first of two, a song that we can all relate to: We Can't Be Friends

I wanna pick you up, I don't care what time
I wanna drive real fast to some place in town;
I wanna stress you out;
I wanna make things hard;
I wanna take your hand;
I wanna leave this bar;
I wanna wake you up on a driving train
that led it's tracks down inside my brain

I wanna hear your band;
I wanna give it advice;
I wanna meet your girlfriend, she sounds nice;
I wanna take you home;
I wanna feel my age;
I wanna freak you out on a different stage;
I wanna show my teeth;
I wanna keep you fed;
I wanna get you drunk and let it go to your head

so i guess this means we can't be friends

I wanna be unique;
I wanna be your kind;
I wanna make you hate me then change your mind;
I wanna wear a skirt;
I wanna make mistakes;
I wanna kill you first then take your name;
I wanna tear you apart;
I wanna make your bed;
I wanna break your heart;
I wanna break your head

so i guess this means we can't be friends

The second song is one that never fails to make me laugh out loud. Addressing the 'taboo' subject of a woman's personal exploration of her sexuality, this song is riddled with humor, sarcasm, honesty and of course, symphony. Hence, as many people used and still do, say: Girls Aren't Supposed To

Its almost dawn
I cant go home
Well maybe you could try to turn me on

You climb on top leave on your shirt
You move inside and ask me if that hurts

But I swear I didn't feel a thing
You say you never do at first

Now don't you be put off to hear
I went ahead and tried it once again

This time ill make it mine and wont stop until I like the sound of it
And if you should hear the cries and calls through the thinnest of the walls
Don't you get yourself so blue its just the sound of me getting over you

Other girls weren't supposed to like it
Lately I do
Other girls weren't supposed to like it
Maybe its true
Other girls weren't supposed to like it
Maybe its you

My ears my cheeks my neck my hair
That lonely spot that never found you there
Your eyes were on the bouncing ball
The slightest move could only make it fall

But I cant believe the way his hands are finding things not drawn on maps
And the way he looked me in the eyes I have to say I was a bit surprised

Other girls weren't supposed to like it
Lately I do
Other girls weren't supposed to like it
Maybe its true
Other girls weren't supposed to like it
Maybe its you

Thought the wood was dry
Thought the pipes were rusted
Thought something else but I didn't write that lyric
And I thought I loved you but I guess I can't be trusted

The worm has turned and what its learned its sad to say no longer your concern
Theres someone else who treats me kind and doesn't only love me from behind

But even that is better too
I think hes got an inch on you
It took way too long to see
my hand is even better company

Other girls weren't supposed to like it
Lately I do
Other girls weren't supposed to like
Maybe its true
Other girls weren't supposed to like it
Maybe its you.

And so we come to the end of yet another adventure, one with an artist I am quite passionate about. I know I've taken too long to embark on this one but I feel it's worth.

We hope to have you coming around often. :)

Peace and much love,
- Tups

Flower Post 7

'Allo!

No, not going to bother apologizing because as Shar so accurately put it - "If our blog were the Sahara, our posts are like oases - few and far between but definitely worth trudging through blistering, parched heat for."

I've been procrastinating and in the time that I have been doing so, I myself have traveled to the well-worn beaches of the beauty that is Gokarna, India. On this particular trip, within the lovely company and beautiful scenery, I would whip out my headphones and listen to the band that I am going to introduce today - A medley of tunes, techniques and sounds that transcends all urban genres.

Presenting to you, a duo that is slowly climbing up the musical ladder, PANTyRAiD.

A fabulously banging band formed by Martin Folb ("a.k.a MartyParty") and Josh Mayer ("a.k.a Ooah"). Crossing over various genres and combining the flavors of HipHop, HeavyBass, DubStep and IDM and combining them together with their key ingredients of "love and crunk", PANTyRAiD brings in a heart-stopping, soul-pumping twist to urban music. As they accurately and wildly put it in definition of themselves - "PANTyRAiD - Audio Fondling Your Girlfriend."

Every track transcends into a different melody that mesh together to create not just 'another head-bopping' tune but a work of pure musical genius. The first song that caught my attention and remains my all time favorite is the sweetly flowing Beba. A fabulous work of art that won't just make you move but will probably cause your heart to shoot straight down and back up again with every lift in beat and symphony.

Giving a definition to each song would be redundant in comparison to the experience of actually listening to them hence, I shall link you to my next 4 top selections and hope you take the initiative to explore, discover and rediscover the fabulousness of PANTyRAiD. (click to view Artist website)

In effect, there isn't even one of the those songs that doesn't make me feel some sort of joy or doesn't make my heart skip a beat.

This brings me to the end of yet another fabulous post - a personal favorite of mine. I hope you've enjoyed it as much as the previous ones.

Peace and much love,
-Tups

Flower Post 6

Ben Harper and Jack Johnson

Hi....

.... Kill me not, for I love thee!

Yes, I have been away. 9 whole months, much to the chagrin of my fellow music-propagators, Shar and Kristofer.

Today, I am in a philosophical mood. No, not philosophical but more like, 'contentedly-satisfied-edly-heart-warmingly- toes tinglingly melancholic.' What does it all boil down to?
.
.
.
.
.
Warm symphonies and woebegone words.

Hence, today I am introducing a song. Not an artist, a song. A song by two song-writers/singers who are known; who steal hearts; who bridge gaps and yet, together, create magic that isn't known by many.

Presenting Jack Johnson and Ben Harper!

Put the warm-honeyed voice of Johnson and the ever-so-raw crooning of Harper and you have 'gorgeous' in a song -- Please Me Like You Want To. (Click to listen)

A song that flows not only through your heart but through your mind, body, soul... the jazz that people say love is made up of is not only intertwined within this song, it is intertwined between these men. Phenomenal artists in possession of thunderous talent come together to give a voice to all the aching and going-ons in those little, traitorous hearts of ours.

I always believed in the concept of believing in love... till I fell in love. I know I don't have to explain it any further...

... So, as yet another victim of this nearly supernatural emotion, I extend and share this song with you; allow it to vine it's way around your emotions, flow through your veins, wrap itself around your brain... and make your heart smile. =)

Don't do me any favors
matter of fact why don't you
do yourself a few

your presence ain't nobody's blessing
I've got plenty of other things
I could do

oh no, not another excuse
your tired silly games
for me are just no use

and now it's plain for me to see
you're with somebody
that you don't want to be

so won't you
please please me like you want to
not like you have to
or won't you just go on and leave me
leaving me is the least that you could do

you could have spared me
so much misery
and told me you just wanted
a friend

believe me there is a difference
when you mean it
and when you pretend

or was I just your habit
cause I know a habit
is a hard thing to break

but won't you spare me
a little mercy
there's only so much
so much that I can take

so won't you
please please me like you want to
not like you have to
or won't you just go on and leave me
leaving me is the least that you could do

We come to the end of yet another journey - at least that's how every post feels like. =) I hope this song took you to a far away place that probably only you know of. No one's asking questions, no one's asking where. ;)

I haven't said whatever it is I wanted to... But I know you know what I know and that makes me glow. =)

I hope you've loved, are loving and will love!

Peace and much love,
-Tups

P.S. Future posts of these two phenomenal men! Wait for it. ;)

Flower Post 5

YippedeeDooDa!

And as usual, I tend to be lazy.
No, no, my lovely readers, I have in fact been supremely busy with education. *vomit*

But now I'm back and I am so supremely excited to introduce this new artist! He's quite obscure and oh-so-flowery-fields like!

Introducing to you people: Citizen Cope.

Clarence Greenwood, who goes under the pseudonym Citizen Cope, is an American singer whose main genres are folk/blues. He's got a very unique and 'lazy' style of singing and more often than not, can make you swoon! (Definitely makes me swoon!!).

The very first song that I feel is an absolute necessity to introduce is a beautifully put, satirical song called Bullet and a Target. Words that make complete sense only because they're a reflection of what secretly goes on through our minds flow in this song.

Love songs are something Citizen Cope writes with a hint of irony and a very large dose of humor. While making you want to weep with joy, they make you want to laugh out loud only because they are so ridiculously brilliant. Combining talents with Carlos Santana can only give us brilliance like Sideways. A song with a light lilt and brilliant flow of words that force you to feel. Pablo Picasso (lyrics) is a song of (as expected) true love but so grounded in reality that you can completely relate to it. While it has nothing to do with the artist, it has everything to do with the art of loyalty and love.

Son's Gonna Rise is a catchy tune with a rhythmic beat and repetitive lyrics. It's the perfect tune to get you going and the perfect tune to get you moving.

And finally, my Beautifuls, I am going to end with a song that is specifically for you all. Nite Becomes Day is a tune that every one of us can relate to only because we think it and feel it. It's seductively alluring and brilliantly comical at the same time:

Things have been getting real heavy these days
The media the system
the people chasing pay
Somebody's got a rifle he won't turn the other cheek
Now its his turn

Things have been getting real hectic these days
An eye for an eye
A spade is a spade
They're shooting him down and he's running away
That was their turn

I believe in
The same thing that makes the night become day
Tide and the water
Sons and the daughters
Can't hide it can't fight it
Love
I'm a say it again

It's the same thing that makes the moonlight
Meet up with the sunlight
Can't fight it can't buy it
Love... I'm a say it again

When cut deep the same blood we bleed
We're not immune to addiction or disease
Got violent deaths in our family trees
Now it's our turn

Things have been seeming real ready these days
From the North to the South to the East to the West
Happiness will you put it to your chest
When it's your turn
.

Closing this post makes my chest feel tight only because I can't find words to explain the brilliance that is this man. I certainly hope you all enjoy the music and please drop us a comment with an opinion!
We love feedback and we love you. =)

Peace and much love,
-Tups.

Flower Post 4

Hi... *Looks sheepish*

I'M SORRY!! I've been a right lazy git and not been updating this beautiful blog but I'm going to get right down to it now.

In this time that I've taken a self-approved hiatus from Treble Notes, I have found some disgustingly awesome music for ya'll! Since we have to limit it to one artist a post to keep you guys coming back for more, today I will be introducing to you... Kimya Dawson!

Kimya Dawson is (in my opinion) the better half of the duet The Moldy Peaches. She is an American singer-songwriter who started recording songs in her home studio.

If you're familiar with the movie Juno, you will definitely be familiar with Kimya Dawson. The soundtracks of Juno are performed by The Moldy Peaches and Kimya Dawson individually.

Kimya Dawson is definitely a voice out of the ordinary. With a raw voice, simple tunes and catchy, almost revolutionary lyrics, Dawson helps bring out the child in a person, making her songs highly sing-along-able (if that's even a word... which its not).

The first song I am going to introduce is called My Rollercoaster. It's a beautiful, innocent song that everyone can relate to. It's catchy tune and brilliant lyrics make it a song that can be listened to on any occasion and at any time and anywhere!

Dawson uses references to childish activities in her music. In my opinion, these references usually make people giggle cause they're so brilliantly innovative. This next song is called Tire Swing. It's a sweet song, mainly about friendship and personal strength. A MUST listen.

Now, have you ever heard a song that has the most obscure title in comparison to the lyrics but at the same time, it makes absolute and complete sense after you've listened to the song for the third time? Loose Lips is one of those songs. The lyrics make you constantly contemplate so many various aspects of life. Simple things like taking a walk, meeting friends, laughing etc... and more heavy aspects of life like... Death. But even Death is put across lightly and in retrospect, making you understand the simplicities of friendship more directly.

And at last, but certainly not the least, we have my SUPER personal favorite - Nobody's Hippie. Oh, this song makes my heart ache only because it just makes SO much SENSE to me. I love it. The song is so beautiful. Describing love in its more innocent and raw form. With references to jealousy, heartache, longing and love, it is the most honest song I know.

And so we come to end of my post but I AM going to urge anyone who is reading this post to please check out Kimya Dawson's other songs.

She is brilliant.

Till later,
Peace and much love,
-Tups

Flower Post 3

Hey, ya'll!

Yes, this post has been long overdue and I apologize. Many things happening (including laziness!).

So, this time I'm going to introduce a fairly new artist who has totally taken the world by storm with her 50's jazzy tunes and brilliant lyricism -- Duffy.

Aimee Ann Duffy
was born on June 23rd (Cancerian, like me!) and is a Welsh singer/songwriter. In 2008, she debuted with her ridiculously famous debut single, Mercy. This song took the world by storm because of the upbeat melody, 50's style tune and theme and the soulful lyrics.

The second song released was Warwick Avenue, a song filled with pain and emotion.

Now, the reasons I am introducing Duffy on Treble Notes are the following three songs.

1) Stepping Stone, a song of mild rebellion about breaking free. The tune makes you sing along and immediately captivates you. The lyrics makes sense to anyone whose been through love at least once. =)

2) This song is called Syrup & Honey and is as sweet as the title suggests. It is the slowest of the lot and has a deep yet easy tune. The song is perfect for a Sunday morning or for one of those moments when all you want is time alone with a coffee and your thoughts.

3) The last of the lot ( and my personal favorite) is called Distant Dreamer. Someone told me that this song describes me perfectly and could not have agreed more. The song leaves you swaying and thinking. The thoughts are perfectly put across through almost surreal lyrics.
I foresee this song to be a brilliant hit!

And I officially come to the end of this post. I sincerely hope you enjoy these songs and the artist. It might take a little getting used to in regards to Duffy's voice but it's absolutely worth it!

Keep a look-out for Kristofer's post, which is up next. It's sure to hold something interesting as usual!

Till later,
Peace and much love,
- Tups.

Flower Post 2

Hey hey hey!

I know it's been a while since I've updated this page with some of my influence but I can see that Kristofer and Shar have done their own share of sharing! (Ha ha =))
Some lovely music has been introduced and now its my turn to do the same!

My latest pick is an American jam band called Dispatch.

Dispatch was formed in 1996 and were active till 2002. It consisted of three members: Brad Corrigan (vocals, drums, guitar, percussion and harmonica), Pete Heimbold (vocals, bass and guitar), and Chad Urmston (vocals, guitar, bass, and percussion). Between the three of them, Dispatch has got an amazing variety of genres; from reggae (which is largely incorporated into their songs) to folk to ska to rock to hip-hop.

The first song that I was introduced to was called Bang Bang. The song follows an easy tune and a wonderful story with a catchy end. The singer seems to have a slight teasing tone that can't do anything but make you smile.

Dispatch also explores realms of love and pain in their songs.
Headlights is a song soulfully sung to a lover. A plea of sorts that makes your heart ache.

And then *drumrull* we have Carry You. This song is more wistful and makes you sway along. Simple and short, it takes you into your own world.

One of my personal favorites is a song with a strong African-Folk influence called Elias. There happens to be an amazing story behind this song. Dispatch has a non-profit organization, The Elias Fund, for the Zimbabwaen youth in regards to education. The idea came about in 1994 when Chad Urmston stayed in Zimbabwe for a while and met Elias, a gardener who became the inspiration and namesake to this particular song. Elias dreamed that his sons, Honest and Manuel, would one day have the opportunity further their education. This dream became the corner stone of the Elias fund and of the beautiful and most popular song by Dispatch.

I'm going to end this post with this song and story and hope you enjoy this band! Easy listening, soulful music, wistful pleas and inspirational stories packed into one band!

P.S. Also check out their other songs such as The General (lyrics), Flying Horses (lyrics), Passerby (lyrics) and Out Loud (lyrics) to name a few!

Enjoy yourselves and keep things happy!

Peace and much love

Flower Post 1

Hey, you happy people,

That's quite an odd title, I know... but hey! It makes things happy.

So I'm going to get straight to the point ---> Music, in my opinion, makes the world go round; and I am going to try contributing as much as I can.
Since Shar, Kristofer and myself, all have our own preferences of genres, there's going to be a vast variety to choose from over here; many tunes to whistle and many melodies to dance to!

I'm going to introduce you to a song from a 1962 french movie called "Jules et Jim" (Jules and Jim). The movie is about two friends (Jules and Jim) who fall in love with the same woman, Catherine.

Now this song is sung by the actress who plays Catherine, Jeanne Moreau. With a light lilt to her voice, Moreau brings out simplicity AND emotion in this song. The tenor of her voice is just gorgeous.

And the name of the song is.....
"Le Tourbillon de la Vie." (The Whirlpool of Life)
The song is sung from a perspective of a man who falls in love with a beautiful woman. They get seprated and live their lives in thought of each other. One day, they are reunited and wonder why they must go on without each other and then decide to spend the rest of their days together.

Very common plot, I know! But the tone and tune of this song will definitely tug at your heartstrings... even if you're not a hopeless romantic!

It might take a little getting used to but it's definitely worth being listened to on repeat.

For lyrics and translation, click here. (Scroll all the way down for translations)
I suggest listening to the song without reading the lyrics first. The tune and the language can be appreciated without understanding the song's meaning! =)

I hope you all liked this song!
Also, the movie is a must see!

Peace and much love
